My love of painting is one of the most important parts of my life. Often, my style is dictated by the medium I'm using. My passion is painting abstracts in acrylic, though I also love creating collages and painting with watercolours, which render more gentle and impressionistic results. My inspiration comes both from within and from my experiences in nature and travelling.
Emmy was born in Belgium, and later lived in Holland where she began her art studies. In 1951 she moved to Canada and continued her interest in art. She studied whenever there was an opportunity, at institutions such as the Sheridan School of Design and Donevan Collegiate Institute. Though she and her husband Bert lived in many parts of the country over the years, Emmy has been an important fixture in the Okanagan's art scene now for more than 35 years. She has traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East and Far East, and the influence of these destinations can often be seen in her work.
